Mr. D’Angelo represents management clients in all aspects of labor and employment law. Mr. D’Angelo has both successfully litigated and advised management clients in matters involving federal, state and local discrimination laws, wage-hour laws, family leave laws, plant closings, employment agreements and noncompete agreements. His management practice also includes labor-management relations. Mr. D’Angelo has advised clients with respect to union-avoidance, and he has appeared before the National Labor Relations Board handling representation hearings, union election campaigns, and unfair labor practice proceedings. Mr. D’Angelo has also successfully negotiated collective bargaining agreements, and he has handled hundreds of discharge and contract interpretation arbitrations arising out of union contracts. On behalf of his management clients Mr. D’Angelo’s has conducted numerous internal investigations, and presented hundreds of workplace harassment training workshops.
Mr. D’Angelo also represents individual clients in employment related matters and disputes. On behalf of his individual clients he has negotiated numerous employment agreements, executive compensation agreements, and severance agreements. He has also advised clients with respect to their rights and obligations regarding restrictive covenants, and appeared on behalf of individual clients before the EEOC and in federal court actions alleging unlawful discrimination.
Mr. D’Angelo has also published several articles and chapters in employment law treatises and the New York Law Journal, as well as client bulletins regarding newsworthy developments. Mr. D’Angelo has also been trained as a mediator, and has served on the pro bono mediation panel for the Southern District of New York since 1999.
Recent cases handled by Mr. D’Angelo include a noncompete case in the proxy solicitation industry; several discrimination claims against retail clients; a class claim brought by the EEOC against a client in the hospitality industry alleging national origin discrimination which was settled on favorable terms; two representation hearings before the NLRB; an age and gender claim brought against a client in the publishing industry; a sexual orientation claim brought against a client in the recruiting industry; an age claim against a client in housing services; and a gender claim brought against a consumer goods manufacturer.
Mr. D’Angelo is a 1981 graduate of Villanova University, magna cum laude, and Fordham University School of Law, 1984. He is married with three children and lives in Pelham Manor, New York. Mr. D’Angelo is active in community affairs, serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Providence Rest Nursing Home in Bronx, New York, and as a member of the Advisory Board for HB Studio in New York City. Mr. D’Angelo is also a member the American Bar Association (Labor and Litigation sections), the New York State Bar Association (Labor section), and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. In 2008 and 2009, Mr. D’Angelo was named a Super Lawyer for the New York Metro Area in the New York Super Lawyers Magazine.
